Mermaid's Cove Music Hop

Ahoy, me darlin', ye've found a jolly round of songs for swashbucklers.

Music is a strong theme in Random Magic-- so strong, in fact, that one of the celestial characters Winnie and Henry meet is Efterpe, the Muse of music.

So, for the love of music (and pirates), here’s a fun music hop to check out, featuring all kinds of delicious tunes piratical.

Start anywhere you like -- for each blog stop, you’ll be able to enjoy a merry tune, then just sail off to the next port for another round.  Hoist the mizzen and away we go!

You are here: #5 of 11: The True Book Addict
Songs for: Scary pirates
Bonus: Live performance by Ute Lemper (English)

Seeräuber Jenny (Pirate Jenny) – Lotte Lenya (German)
Original version from The Threepenny Opera (libretto by Bertolt
Brecht and music by Kurt Weill)

One evening there'll be shouting at the harbor
And people will ask: What's all the shouting about?
And people will see me smiling while I do the glasses
And people will say: What's she got to smile about?

And a ship with eight sails
And with fifty cannons
Will lie at the waterfront...

Random Magic quote of the piratey persuasion:

‘Ah, hahaha,’ Jack chortled, catching his breath. ‘Ahhh-haaaa.’  He straightened up, then, his face suddenly dark and pitiless as a Strüth.  ‘Enor'f,’ he snarled. ‘No quarter given.  You there,’ he said, waving at a man in a torn red jacket, with a thick gold ring through his nose,
‘grab the little rats and gut 'em.’ Black Jack spit on the deck.  ‘Then toss 'em to the sea,’ he purred, his eyes glittering with malice. ‘There's a storm ahead. Let the waves finish 'em.’ (More)

Thank you for visiting and taking the time to comment. It means so much.

I apologize for word verification, but as soon as I changed the settings from only users with Google accounts, I started receiving a ton of spam comments...within one hour of changing the settings. The bots are on high alert apparently.

  1. Wow, this song kind of gave me chills.

  2. Pirate Jenny does sound like quite the scary character, but she seems to enjoy herself - which is probably the most important part! ;)
